The MYE Intern program is a 10-month commitment initially based in Montana, and then in the intern’s home town. The time in Montana will provide interns with the opportunity to gain hands on experience in an outdoor wilderness program and interact with other people who are keen to extend their outdoor pursuit skills, leadership experiences and inter-personal skills. As any MYE alumnus knows, Montana is the ideal environment in which to run this program, with mountains, lakes, rivers and bush all on the back door step; a dynamic outdoor program and a highly motivated staff.

The Montana program component will also prepare Interns with the skills, knowledge and information to enable them to continue to be an effective member of our team when they return home at the end of summer and move into the second component of the program.

The program in Montana will comprise of field time, leadership opportunities, service projects and learning workshops. The intern group will often operate as a discrete unit, spending a significant amount of time working together to develop technical, inter-personal and self-leadership skills.

The intern group will also be an integral part of MYE Basecamp operations. Each intern will receive training in logistics, field and support work; and take leadership roles in the kitchen, logistics shed and with groups in the field. They have the important job of providing positive role modeling to MYE program participants, as well as being an essential support to field and office staff. And, on top of all that, they will be actively involved in the MYEarth sustainability program.

The home component aims and objectives, and how these are practically applied post summer, will be individually designed for each intern based on their skills and interests, and the needs of the MYExplore program, if it runs in their area. The planning for this will start during the Montana phase of the internship and be an ongoing and dynamic process for the remainder of their internship.

This program cannot ‘make’ anyone a high quality outdoor professional, highly skilled outdoor recreationalist, excellent leader, effective communicator or productive team member. We can provide a solid educational framework, skilled and motivated staff to teach and mentor, and a sequenced program to help motivated individuals reach their goals. Interns will ensure their own success in meeting their goals through a positive attitude, openness to learning, and lots of work during their time at MYE, and in their own time.

We are only interested in having highly motivated and mature individuals, who can make this kind of commitment, apply for the Intern Program.
