Directions to Basecamp

Basecamp is situated at the foot of Tom Miner Basin. Flanked by mountain ranges, with the Yellowstone River on one boundary and the iconic Yellowstone National Park close by, it is an ideal location for a wilderness adventure program. From here it is easy to get into the back-country for multi-day hiking trips, river access is a short walk away, and wildlife watching can literally happen in our back yard.

The facilities at basecamp include a small commercial kitchen, dining room, wall tent accommodation, a washhouselecture room with attached kitchen, back-country logistics base, staff accommodation, large grounds and covered outside deck, and low ropes course elements. Groups of 20-30 students plus staff can easily be accommodated on site.

A smaller out-camp is situated at Grizzly Creek Ranch, six miles up Tom Miner Basin at the foot of Horse Creek. It is the base for MYE’s Leadership Lab and also used for some components of MYE Wilderness Challenge courses. Yellowstone National Park borders three sides of the basin here, and a short walk from the ranch will find you in wild country, home to many wildlife species including moose, bear, mountain lion and deer.

The facilities at the GCR camp include a lecture/meeting/dining room with attached kitchenette, teepee accommodation, wall tent kitchen, and ablution blocks.

Montana is the location of our office and is the center of MYE operations from September to May.

Santa Barbara is the location of the Orfalea Foundations, MYE’s main supporter and MYE’s California Life Skills Program (LSP). Our Orfalea Foundations Liaison person is based at the Foundations’ office, and MYE’s California LSP Coordinator, Jerry Lawrie, is also in Santa Barbara.
